LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Education Funds
Thanks to the generosity of our members, the 2017-18 fundraising season was a huge success. $7,835 was donated for Saddleback scholarships which together with interest from our endowment at the Saddleback Foundation allowed us to present three $3,000 scholarships in June.
$3,138 was donated toward our high school scholarship fund. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving graduate of San Juan Hills High School.
Members donated $4,389 for Tech Trek scholarships. Along with the Edison company grant we received, this will allow us to send a record number 10 girls to the STEM camp at UCI in July.
In addition to the $1,125 donated this year, we sent an additional $2,130 to the Education Fund administered by the national organization which awards fellowships and grants to graduate women.

6 years ago our branch created a new scholarship for an outstanding graduating senior at San Juan Hills High School enrolled in a 4 year university in the fall.  This school was chosen because it was quite new and didn’t have many scholarships and served a very diverse population.  It was prompted by a $10,000 Endowment donated by Diane Edwards a “friend” of our branch who valued our emphasis on education for women.  When the endowment was depleted 2 years ago the branch voted to continue this important scholarship through our yearly Fund Raising for our philanthropies.  We provide opportunities at the Junior High level for girls to attend the week long Tech Trek STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) camp at UCIrving campus.  This scholarship provided for a High School Senior.  Our long time scholarships at Saddleback helped returning women students at the Junior College level and we support AAUW Funds at the national level, which awards Fellowships and Grants to graduate students.
