From the President’s Desk

Sandra Cupp, President
Message for December, 2021

To All Members of our Five Star Branch,

Thank you sincerely to those members who have responded to the December invitation and to all who have returned their survey. If you have not yet returned your survey, please do so by December 6th so that your input will be included. We appreciate your comments and your participation. You may also scan or take a photo to send your survey to me.

We have not met on the same day or time this year, as AAUW has encouraged having meetings on different days and times to determine when we have the best attendance. Once we have ascertained member preference, we will share the results and use the information in the future. If you are interested in being more involved in our organization, we always welcome help. Our reading program is on hold until the school district permits volunteers to return. I encourage you to check and read your emails, as ours are always very important! (She said with a grin!)

In the six months that I have been your president, I have been privileged to work with so many conscientious, dedicated women who want to make a difference and who believe in the mission of AAUW to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy. When we needed a Title IX Coordinator, Joan Nielsen immediately volunteered, and offered to also serve as our Recording Secretary; Irene Berardesco then volunteered to serve as our Title IX Coordinator.

I could go through the entire list of board members and demonstrate how diligently each person works for our branch. Many of our members are eager to return to in-person events, while others remain hesitant to do so. We will schedule hybrid meetings for the next several months to provide options for all, as we want everyone to attend our meetings. Our general meetings begin with the program, followed by a brief meeting.

As our friendly San Clemente Kiwanis Club provides a scholarship for Tech Trek Camp each year and supports many youth organizations, we encourage members who plan to purchase See’s candy to buy from this group. Candy is sold in front of Ralph’s on Camino de los Mares from November 22 to December 23. I will be selling on December 18 from 11:00 – 2:00; another volunteer takes over until 5:00. You may purchase daily between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. Orders over $100 may be delivered.

In December, we think of others and of how fortunate we are; the holiday season lifts our spirits. I wish everyone good health and much happiness on behalf of our board. May the spirit of giving joy to others bring you joy as well; listen to beautiful music which inspires and fills us with peace and love.

May your holidays indeed be merry!

Sandy Cupp
