Literary Conversations Gears Up for an Exciting New Year!
Submitted by Laurie Jacobs
Members of the interest group Literary Conversations met June 5, 2023, to discuss a selection of their book, Citizens of the World, Readings in Human Rights, and also to choose new reading material to start in the new year. By popular vote of the members present, two collections of short stories were selected to read beginning in January 2024 – Great Short Stories of the Masters, edited by Charles Neider, and 100 Years of the Best American Short Stories, edited by Lorrie Moore and Heidi Pitlor.
The enthusiastic Conversationalists feel that these two volumes should keep them interested and busy for a while! Literary Conversations meets the first Monday of the month at 1:00 pm, every month except July and September. Members take turns leading and hosting for each meeting, usually in the host’s home, but occasionally at other venues. The group enjoys the camaraderie along with the intellectually stimulating discussions that always provide new insights. Members say it is like a book club, but without the commitment to read an entire book, as selections are usually short stories or essays of a dozen pages or less.
