Interest Groups December 2025

For information about any Interest Group or to share an idea for forming a new Interest Group, contact Catherine McLoughlin.  If there are Interest Group changes during the month, the Interest Group information leaders will communicate with their group members via email.

BOOK WORMS Dark in December. Bookworms will meet Thursday, Jan. 22 at 1:00! Welcome to another fun year of reading! We will meet at Miriam Kranser’s home to discuss the book Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult. Petti Van Rekom will lead the discussion. Please RSVP to Miriam if you will be attending or not! The Last Secret Agent book coverCONTEMPORARY NOVELS, PLUS will not meet in December. We will meet the last Monday of the month on January 26 at 1:00 at the home of Debbie Mecklenburg to discuss The Last Secret Agent by Pippa Labour. Information will be sent to members via email. EVENING BOOKS will meet on Monday, Dec. 15 at the home of Nancy Eidt for our annual Holiday Potluck and book exchange. Please RSVP to Nancy and let Linda McLaughlin know what you are bringing. The group will meet at 7PM on Monday, Jan. 19 at the home of Audie Sturla to discuss A Council of Dolls by Mona Susan Powell. Susan Rosenberger will lead the discussion. Please RSVP to Audie. LITERARY CONVERSATIONS will meet Monday, December 1, 2025 at the home of Jeannette Pease. Toby Curry will the lead the discussion of “Refresh, Refresh” by Benjamin Percy, found in 100 Years of the Best American Short Stories on pages 625-638. January meeting is To Be Determined. Let's play bridgeGAMES

BRIDGE: The AAUW Bridge group will meet on December 11th and January 8th, the second Thursday of the month, at Fratello’s 647 Camino de los Flores, San Clemente at 11am. Please contact Debbie as early as possible if you plan to attend. Information Contact Debbie Mecklenberg.

MAH JONGG: The Mah Jongg group meets every two weeks on Friday. We will meet at the home of Toby Curry at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 5, to celebrate the holidays and at Marge Hobb’s home at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 19.  The January games will be at Rona Neiman’s home on January 2 and at the home of Jane Robinett on January 16.  Both start at 6 p.m. We would love to have new players. If you would like to join the group or learn to play Mah Jongg, contact Jane Robinett.

DINE OUT OPPORTUNITIES

HAPPY HOUR will meet on December 3 and January 7, the first Wednesday of the month at 4:00pm at San Juan Creek Golf Club. Everyone is welcome. It is a great way in a casual atmosphere to get to know your fellow AAUW members. You just need to let Marge Hobbs know if you are coming, so we can set up the right amount of tables and chairs. Please don’t forget to wear your name tag.

LUNCH BUNCH The Lunch Bunch will not meet in December.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the AAUW holiday lunch.  Our first gathering of the new year will be at 11:30 am on January 21, 2026 at Mandarin Garden, 111 Avenida Palizada, San Clemente.  For further information contact Lynda Winter

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

Foreign Policy Association logoINTERNATIONAL INTERESTS . is dark through December and January.  Our first meeting in 2026 will be on February 10 at Gayle Brosseau’s home.  Deb Mecklenburg will be facilitating the group discussion on Ukraine.  Visitors are welcome. Please let Irene Berardesco know if you would like to be on the email distribution list for 2026. Topics are selected from the Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions Series. MATINEE DRAMA will meet Dec. 12 at the home of Robbin Ward at 1:00.  We will be reading the comedy DUMBBELL PEOPLE IN A BARBELL WORLD by Dan Blue. January meeting is To Be Determined. Contact Tanya Johnson for information.

MEANDERING MAIDENS A small group of us walk around Dana Point Harbor most Saturdays at 10am. We meet outside of Harpoon Henry’s.  It is a very pleasant and easy 2 1/2 mile walk.   If you would like to join us, contact Suzi Klickstein and we will add you to our contact list.

MOVIE GROUP meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at 7PM at the home of Joan Nielsen. The group will not meet in December. Meetings will resume in January. Contact: Joan Nielsen.
