Interest Groups October 2025

For information about any Interest Group or to share an idea for forming a new Interest Group, contact Catherine McLoughlin.  If there are Interest Group changes during the month, the Interest Group information leaders will communicate with their group members via email.

BOOK DISCUSSIONS

BOOK WORMS will meet on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 to choose their books for 2026. Please bring your book suggestion forms and have your choices for 9 books in mind. We will meet at the home of Irene Berardesco. Please RSVP to Irene if you will be attending or not, so that she can inform the gate person. For more information, contact Diana Phelps.

Woman they could not silence coverstrong>CONTEMPORARY NOVELS, PLUS will meet on Monday, October 27 at 1:00pm at the home of Robbin Ward. Laurie Jacobs will lead the discussion of The Woman They Could Not Silence: One Woman, Her Incredible Fight for Freedom, and the Men Who Tried to Make Her Disappear by Kate Moore. Fahrenheit 451 coverEVENING BOOKS will meet on Monday, October 20, at 7PM at the home of Robbin Ward to discuss Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Please RSVP to Robbin. LITERARY CONVERSATIONS will meet Monday, October 6 at 1 pm. Toby Curry will host and Melinda Wells will lead the discussion of “A Dog’s Tale” by Mark Twain. The story is  our book 100 Years of the Best American Short Stories. For any information or to join the group please contact Toby Curry.

BRIDGE: The AAUW Bridge group will meet on October 9th, the second Thursday of the month, at Fratello’s 647 Camino de los Flores, San Clemente at 11am.  There will be 2 duplicate tables and one table of newer players. Please contact Nasrah Kwentus if you would like to be on the sub list which we always need! Looking forward to adding you!

MAH JONGG: The Mah Jongg group meets every two weeks on Friday evening at 6 p.m. The game on October 10 will be played at Rona Neiman’s home and the game on October 24 will be played at the home of Jane Robinett. We would love to have new players. If you would like to join the group or learn to play Mah Jongg, contact Jane Robinett.

DINE OUT OPPORTUNITIES

HAPPY HOUR will meet on October 1, the first Wednesday of the month at 4:00pm at San Juan Creek Golf Club. Everyone is welcome. It is a great way in a casual atmosphere to get to know your fellow AAUW members. You just need to let Suzi Klickstein know if you are coming, so we can set up the right amount of tables and chairs. Please don’t forget to wear your name tag.

LUNCH BUNCH The Lunch Bunch will meet on Wednesday, October 15th at 11:30am at Hennessey’s Tavern, 34111 La Plaza, Dana Point. Please make reservations with Lynda Winter by July 13th. For further information, please contact Lynda Winter or Audie Sturla.

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

Foreign Policy Association logoINTERNATIONAL INTERESTS will meet on Tuesday, October 14 at 1:00, and our topic will be the “Future of NATO.” The discussion will be led by Linda McLaughlin. The meeting will be at Gayle Brosseau’s home. Please let Irene Berardesco know if you would like to be on the email distribution list for 2025. MATINEE DRAMA will meet on Friday, October 10th, 1:00pm, at Tanya Johnson’s home. We are reading a new play, HOME I’M DARLING, by Laura Wade. All are welcome! Contact Tanya Johnson for information.

MEANDERING MAIDENS A small group of us walk around Dana Point Harbor most Saturdays at 10am. We meet outside of Harpoon Henry’s.  It is a very pleasant and easy 2 1/2 mile walk.   If you would like to join us, contact Suzi Klickstein and we will add you to our contact list.
